Psst... Dan Gabel and the Abletones are rehearsing at Spontaneous Celebrations on Friday November 12th, and dancers are invited! It's an open rehearsal, organized by JP Jitterbugs.
Is this crazy? Maybe! But it will be so fun, not only to dance to amazing excellent swing music from this critically-acclaimed 18-piece big band (or subset thereof), but also to catch a glimpse into how the music comes to life, and to participate in an interplay between dancers and musicians.
Optional/encouraged: Bring an idea for a dance move to work on. Could be something you learned in a dance class, that you want to solidify. For example:
- "I need to work on my swing out!"
- "I need to work on keeping my 6-count footwork going during a tuck turn!"
- "I want to learn how to do a sugar push!"
- "I want to work on turning down the line as a follow!"
- "I want to learn this specific swingout variation that I saw in the 'A Day at the Races' lindy hop scene!"
- "I'm willing to work on whatever my partner wants to work on!"
All levels welcome! Beginners don't be shy!
The only thing we ask is that we to try and be quiet when speaking so that the band can hear themselves playing and discussing details. They will appreciate your cheers after song endings though :).
Doors open at 8pm.
When the band is done (probably around 9:30 or 10), we'll throw on some tunes, and have a social dance until 11
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Vaccination required.
Masks too. As per CDC guidelines, please choose masks that:
- Have two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric
- Completely cover your nose and mouth
- Fit snugly against the sides of your face and don't have gaps
- Have a nose wire to prevent air from leaking out of the top of the mask.
Disposable masks meeting these requirements will be available onsite.
Ventilation is good: New HVAC system, and we can open the windows.
Please try to avoid perfumes, colognes or other heavily scented products so our dancers with allergies can enjoy the event with us! Unfortunately perfumes can cause terrible migraines.
